Blade 120SR with modified landing skids

The 120SR comes with decent landing skids that don't break too often, but are one of the weaker parts of the hell and don't look very nice. There are some other options available that look better and are more durable. You'll notice this one also has the tail boom struts added, that will be another tutorial.

Parts You Will Need

Instructions

1
Sacrifice the stock landing skids
Sacrifice the stock landing skids

In order for this to work, you need to ruin your stock skids. I know, not a great plan. If you have a set of broken ones those would be perfect (provided the parts you need are not broken). What you do is cut off the ends that that attach into the frame. You'll need all four of these. Cut them off where the disk meets the skids NOT the posts that fit into the frame.

2
Remove metal pins

The midde of these posts are hollow, but have a steel insert in them to provide additional strength. Apparently these used to be all plastic and break very easily. We need to remove the steel insert so the screw can be threaded in there.

3
Trim new landing skids

Pretty straight forward now. Slide the skids into the struts and then put the gear on. It may require some adjustments to get the heli level. That is critical to good flight. If the landing gear does not make the heli sit level, then it won't fly right. On startup it calibrates "level" and if it isn't level it won't fly right. It will want to drift one way or another trying to get back to the same crooked level you started with.

4
Screw the old posts to the new skids

You can see how the posts were screwed in place. The included screws should do the job, but any very narrow screw that is long enough will work. It must be long enough to hold it all together and go far enough up into the stock gear's hollow middle. If the screws are not long enough these posts can sheer off on a crash. Fortunately CA glue works to put them back together. Yes, I found out the hard way.
